This week we enter Chronicles! Be sure to catch the 2 brief videos on Chronicles included in the enterthebible.org site to get a good beginning point. Other information included on these books (summary, background, theological issues, etc) is also very insightful. 1 Chronicles divides clearly into 2 parts -- the first 9 chapters include many names in the family tree of David. The second part gives a particularly positive view of David as a perfect king who will leave behind the legacy of the temple.
While reading, don't get bogged down in the lists of names or the somewhat slanged history of David. Instead, ask youself questions such as "Why was this included? What did it mean to the original audience - to the Isrealites who had returned from exile in Babylon? How did it encourage them as they made a new beginning?"
